Pressing and Flattening

Flattening is the foundation of card restoration. A properly executed press can transform a bent, curved, or warped card back to near-original condition. This guide covers the standard humidor-and-press method - the technique every collector should master first.

Trading cards are layered paper fibers. When fibers absorb or lose moisture unevenly, the card bends. Flattening works through three phases:

This is why "just use a book" fails - it skips the humidity phase that allows fibers to actually reform.
